Tools of the trade
Friday, November 14, 2014 at 12:43PM Some of you have asked what are the tools of the trade to make railroad models. Well at Wheels of Time "as-built" drawings (if measuring the real thing is not possible), clear photos, car & lettering diagrams and the Officiial Railway Equipment Register are important in developing our authentically scaled models. Further, SolidWorks MCAD is indepensible especially in communicating our 3-D models faithfully to the tool & die people. Here is part of a drawing for SP class F-70-10 car which you will see in the near future. Btw, the Gunderson F-70-12 and -26 were a copy of the F-70-10. And if you have forgotten, we are taking N scaling pre-orders for the F-70-26 bulkhead flat cars which are due soon!![]()
Skybox on SP F-70-12 . . .
Monday, November 3, 2014 at 04:17PM During our research phase of our Wheels of Time N-scale F-70-10/12/26 flat car project, I ran across a photo of a Southern Pacific F-70-12 flat car with a Skybox. The skybox protects airplane parts from damage during transit. I don't know if this was assigned to McDonnell Douglas, Boeing or Lockheed airplanes. I am giving a shout out if you know more about this skybox on F-70-12 flat car(s). Was it a one-off prototype?![]()
BTW- be sure to reserve your flat cars by Nov. 21 from your favorite dealer or direct.
